S. T. Herrons’ grandfather was a native of Ireland; was one of the first settlers in Kentucky; was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, and served eight years. His grandmother was a descendant of the Scotch; when she was eighty years old she could walk three miles. His father came to Indiana a poor man, accumulated a good property; was Captain of the militia, and held the office of Justice of the Peace for years. The subject of this sketch is one of the leading shippers of stock in the county. In 1876 he shipped Smith & Farlow of Quincy, $50,000 worth of hogs; came to the county in limited circumstances but by industry and economy he made himself and family a pleasant home, and is one of the live men of the township.
